Sony PS-LX250H Full Auto Turntable demo
The Sony PSLX250H turntable is an automatic belt drive turntable with front-mounted controls. It has a balanced tonearm and includes a phono cartridge. The unit is compact at 16.5 inches X 13.5 inches X 3.9 inches and lightweight at less than 5 pounds. It plays 33 1/3 and 45 rpm vinyls and has a built-in phono preamplifier that can easily be hooked-up to an AUX, phono or video.
This Sony turntable is not for a gigging DJ or for music mixing. This unit cannot play 78s. Nor will it satisfy bona fide audiophiles. The phono cartridge is not replaceable but the cartridge needle is. This model is plain and simple and is meant for easy listening pleasure.
The unit is very straightforward to operate. Once the turntable is set up, place the vinyl record on the platter, put down the dust cover and push “start”. If you want to end your listening, push “stop”. If you wish to raise the tonearm, push up or down. What could be simpler?
The sound produced is more “alive” and engaging more so if it is hooked up to an amplifier. Priced from $72 to $100, this unit has a 3.9/5 consumer rating.
To keep at par with technology Sony turntables came out with a USB stereo turntable. The PS-LX300 has all the features of the PS-LX250 and more. This model is capable of converting your LPs into digital files. It can transfer the music from the vinyl record to your PC or laptop by using a USB cable.
Once the music or songs are saved in your PC, you can use the inclusive software Sound Forge Audio Studio so you can edit the music. Converting analog music to digital file has never been easier. However, the software only works in Windows.
After the music editing, you can transfer the edited music to any MP3 player such as an iPodŽ or WalkmanŽ. You can also choose to playback the LP music using your PC or laptop.
This unit has a consumer rating of 3.8/5 and a tag price from $100 to under $150.
Sony PS-LX350H overview - mixing video demonstration
The PSLX350H Sony turntable is an audio turntable meant for listening pleasure. This unit is manual, belt-driven with pitch control. This unit plays at two speeds (33 1/3 and 45 rpm) and is heavier than the PS-LX250H and PS-LX300USB. The cartridge is MM (moving magnet), has a good tonearm and a professional-looking exterior.
Note that this is a manual turntable which basically means that you have to lower and raise the tonearm “manually”. This could prove a problem as you have to “actively” listen to the LP so you can raise the tonearm once the LP has been played. The tonearm is S-shaped and can e be fitted with a standard cartridge.
You also have the option to replace the cartridge with a more high-tech model for better extraction of sound. The unit has no built-in phono preamplifier or equalizer so you have to purchase a separate receiver for the Sony deck.
These designs of Sony turntables have an average consumer rating of 3.4/5. The price ranges from $138 to under $200 including free shipping delivery option within North America.
